  1. A letter to Patti

    Patti,

Sorry for my late posting. I wrote to you before your passing and was able to give it to you personally. I guess I was one of the lucky ones. Somehow between then and now I’ve just been at such a loss for words. Nothing I say or write can describe the loss and the way I feel.

I will tell you this, which you probably already know. We had the most wonderful day @ Camp Kiwanni in your honor. It was just how you would have wanted it and more. Friends, family, all of us just came together, did our part, and helped and supported each other. Steve did an amazing job! Steve, Nathan, Billy, the Haugh brothers, even uncle David played the drums and sang a song by himself, and really rocked the house. Oh Patti--Jacqui and little Esme sang too and put a smile on everyone’s face. Jackson played outside; he had a ball all day with your senior girls and all of our friends took care of him. Baby Jonathan was so funny; he was totally in awe watching his Papa and his father singing. You really would have been so proud of us all.

On our way home Jackson asked if his Nana Patti is in his heart. I said yes, sweetheart, and she always will be. I will never forget your thoughtfulness. You never came to our home without a little surprise, whether it was a coloring book, stickers, candy, or a raccoon cap when Jackson was obsessed with Davy Crockett. And thank you for the library of children’s books that you started at the cottage, which can now be shared with Jonathan too. I can still hear your chuckle as you held Jackson on your lap and read to him.

I will always cherish our relationship and the special bond that was all our own. I love you so very much and you meant the absolute world to us and to so many people.

I found another quote I have to share with you: “A joyful spirit is a grateful heart.” It must be true. We felt a lot of joy yesterday because we’re all so grateful for everything you gave us.

All of the lilies were taken. People will be thinking of you when they plant them in their gardens. Now you go bloom and grow in your new “horizon” till I see you again. You will be in my heart forever.

I will also keep my promise. Keep coming to me.

    I love you, Patti.

    Leigh-Ann
    XOXOXO
